Do you have a wedding, party or event coming up that requires unique table settings? Step right up – we’ve taken a look at the most recent catwalk trends and found interesting ways to apply it to event tablescapes. With these as inspiration, you are sure to make a splash when you set the scene for your next event.
Velvet & velour
Velvet is without a doubt the season’s biggest fashion trend. From flowing dresses to quirky bowties, the soft, plush fabric cropped up in the collections of major designers and retailers worldwide. Take it to the table by going all out and using a length of velour (velvet’s less costly cousin) as your table cloth, or use it as detailing throughout your tablescape, e.g. velvet ribbons as serviette ties or plush pillows on the chairs.
Colour blocking is another very important trend this season. Basically, you’re grouping together articles and accessories that feature tones of the same colour, instead of mixing it up with others. E.g. you could do an all-white table, with white-on-white linen and flatware, white ceramic vases and flowers like daisies, roses or gypsophila. The same goes for blue, red, orange, purple and any other colour you can imagine, even metallics! Just imagine a table with golden cutlery, silver candelabra and bronze geometric accessories – so dramatic, so chic! A good way to ensure that you create visual interest on a colour-blocked table is to include lots of texture. Play with delicate blooms, flowing table cloths, outsized containers and unusual centrepieces.
Gen Z yellow
According to trend forecasters, Millennial pink (all the tones of blush that have enjoyed the limelight as everyone’s go-to ‘pop colour’ for years now), is about to make way for Gen Z yellow. Get ready for mustard, marigold, lemon, gold, saffron and blonde tones to take over where coral, rose, salmon and fuchsia left off. Stay ahead of the curve by dressing your table in these sunny hues. An abundance of yellow flowers in a collection of copper vases make for an eye-catching centrepiece, and a mustard-coloured tablecloth looks absolutely stunning when combined with flatware in tones of white and blue. Play around until you find a dash of yellow that works for you.
These are just a few of the catwalk trends that have been making its way onto contemporary tables in 2018. Keep an eye out in coming weeks and months as we share more tips and advice on keeping your events stylish and on trend.
